Queen Mary 2 - Major Refit Rotterdam - Project Completion

July 2023 Atlantic Marine Interiors are appointed as main contractor for all Hotel spaces on the forthcoming QM2 re-fit.

  • 22nd September - Materials, tools, and fixings are loaded onto the vessel in Southampton in readiness for pre-refit team joining.

  • 12th October - A team of some 20 multi trade personnel fly to New York in readiness to embark the vessel the following day to complete removals and ‘get ahead’ of critical timeline projects. Existing Crew cabins, Crew spaces and Guest cabins are completely removed during the trans-Atlantic crossing to Southampton, and onwards to dry-dock in Rotterdam.

  • 22nd October Hamburg – AMI embark well over 100 personnel for transit to the Damen Shipyard in Rotterdam, where over the next week more personnel will embark bringing the multi trade re-fit team to over 250 personnel.

During the re-fit period AMI carry out works in 24 spaces throughout the vessel’s interior and outside decks.

  • Replacing Tiles and Teak on three swimming pools including replacing six jacuzzi hot tubs

  • Uplifting and replacing over 13,000M2 of carpets through all guest alleyways and public rooms.

  • Replacing the beautiful Queens Room dance floor, re-finishing another seven dance and timber floors.

  • Re-upholstering many hundreds of chairs and sofas.

  • French Polishing several thousand chairs, and French Polishing existing timber finishes throughout the vessel.

  • Hard surface repairs to all existing serveries throughout the Kings Court Restaurant, other dining and public rooms and areas.

  • Uplifting and installing new Granite, Marble and ceramic tiles in Lounges, Bars and Dining Rooms, including within the ‘top suites’.

  • Specialist deep cleaning and re-finishing to existing tiled areas.

  • Specialist cleaning and re-finishing of every lamp shade and chandelier throughout all the public circulation areas and public rooms.

  • Specialist installation of two new Gold Leaf ceilings.

  • Installing new wall coverings, painting and decorating in many public areas including the Grand Lobby and specialist pearlescent paints in the Britannia Restaurant.

  • Manufacture and installation of joinery within the prestigious Queens & Princess Grills and other areas.

With all works successfully completed, QM2 departs the Damen shipyard to embark Guests in Southampton on 16th November. However, the vessel will sail to New York with 30 AMI personnel still on-board to carry out two planned projects. The complete refurb’ of the Staff Mess, this being an AMI Design & Build project, continuing in the line of many Crew, Staff & officers Mess Rooms, Bars and Recreation spaces throughout the Carnival UK fleet designed in-house by our Interior Architect Guri Blindheim MNIL. Along with supply and installation of USPH compliant deckheads to dry stores areas.
