MS Expedition is a small polar expedition ship that spends most of its time in either the Arctic or Antarctic, so getting to spend time aboard to survey was a challenge. We visited the vessel in some far-flung ports but felt that it was crucial to have a complete knowledge and understanding of all public areas as well as the owner’s – and crew’s – requirements. All our works to Expedition are turnkey, design and build – the owner has trusted Atlantic Marine Interiors to assume complete ownership of all works.
Our first package of works included carpets to all passageways and public areas, repair and maintenance work to PAX cabin wet spaces, upgrades to public bathrooms and a complete overhaul of all crew bathrooms and wet spaces. These had been patched up piecemeal over the years, so we stripped each area completely and added new wall and floor coverings, ceiling panels, lighting and sanitaryware.
We flew 15 men to Reykjavik and carried out most of the strip-out at sea between Iceland and Amsterdam, where we spent two weeks in refit. The owner is absolutely delighted with the project results, which were delivered on time and on budget.
